Broadway Theatre

A classic JB movie theatre that now airs hindi movies

History

Imagine queuing outside a cinema in the 1950s, when going to the movies was the biggest night out in town.

Back then, Broadway Theatre was where Johor Bahru came to watch Chinese films on the big screen, at a time when cinema was still the main form of entertainment available. Walking past the site today, you can still feel traces of that old excitement in the building itself.

It has changed with the decades, but the sense of occasion around it has never fully disappeared.

Why It Matter

These days, the marquee tells a different story, but the theatre is still doing what it has always done bringing people together through film.

Now known as KPI Broadway, it mainly screens Hindi movies for a new generation of moviegoers.

It is a reminder that even as the city changes, some traditions continue on the big screen.
