Imagine checking into a grand hotel, only to find a post office standing there decades later. 

The Johor Hotel first occupied this spot in 1899, a landmark in its own right before the building was repurposed for government use and became home to the Post Office in 1927. The original structure did not last forever. It was torn down in 1962, replaced by the three storey building you see today, officially opened in 1963.

Today this address operates as the General Post Office Johor Bahru along Jalan Ibrahim, doing exactly what it was built for more than sixty years ago. From hotel to government office to post office, it never stopped being useful.

That kind of quiet continuity is rare, and it is worth a stop on its own.

• Dedicated bus stop right outside if you'd rather ride than walk.

• Some local heritage accounts say that around 1910, part of the building briefly served as a British Officers' Club before it became government offices. Flagging this one as likely but not fully confirmed, since it comes from local heritage social posts rather than official records.
