Tunku Ismail Idris, also known as TMJ (Tunku Mahkota Johor), took over the club with a mission to revitalize Johor football. His hands-on approach and passion for the sport have driven JDT’s success. TMJ’s influence extends beyond just financial investment; he has been actively involved in the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the club2. Under TMJ’s leadership, JDT has adopted a professional and modern management structure. The club has brought in experienced coaches and management staff from around the world to implement advanced football strategies and training methods.

Johor Darul Takzim Football Club (JDT), also known as the Southern Tigers, has a rich history that reflects its rise to prominence in Malaysian football. Let’s take a look at the journey of this remarkable club. JDT was originally founded in 1972 as PKENJ FC. The club underwent several transformations over the years, including a significant rebranding in 1996 when it became Johor FC1. This period marked the beginning of the club’s journey towards becoming a powerhouse in Malaysian football.

The real turning point for JDT came in 2013 when the club was rebranded as Johor Darul Takzim FC. This change was spearheaded by Tunku Ismail Idris, the Crown Prince of Johor, who took over the club’s management. His vision and leadership were instrumental in transforming JDT into a professional and competitive team. Key changes included rebranding the club, investing in infrastructure like the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, attracting high-quality players, and bringing in experienced coaches.
